Justine is a passionate, energetic and inventive storyteller who delights in connecting playfully with audiences. She tells stories that can be moving, through provoking, pure entertainment or outright hilarious – often all in one story!
A professional performer for over 25 years, Justine came from a background in community and street theatre and began storytelling in 2008. Her multi-faceted storytelling practice So… what’s the story?, ranges from story play sessions for under 5s, to adults only pub nights to story projects with prisoners. She tells regularly at pubs, festivals, schools, libraries and community events locally and nationally (including Cambridge Folk Festival, Leigh Folk Festival, Bath Literary Festival, Edinburgh Literary Festival, Folk East and The National Centre for the Folk Arts at Halsway Manor) and was Artistic Director of the East Anglian Storytelling Festival from 2015 to 2018.
Her love of live, spontaneous, responsive performance runs through her other performance practices, from co-founding improv company The Unqualified Yes, to hosting open mic events to support new performers, to gigging as her musical persona Lady J who encourages audience percussion and hands out cherry bakewell awards!
“Justine is a fabulous storyteller, she had the children captivated from the moment she said ‘once upon a time’, telling them tales that made them both shriek with giggles and hide behind their hands. Professional, fun and vibrant, I couldn’t recommend Justine more!”
Sarah Butt, Killick & Co, Elmer’s Big Parade Storytelling Event, Ipswich.
“Justine doesn’t tell stories, she inhabits them, gets inside and lives them, while grabbing you by the hand and saying ‘Come on, let’s go!’”
Janina Vigurs, Storyteller
