Colin Urwin hails from the Glens of Antrim in Northern Ireland. He lives on a small hill farm with his wife and a whole menagerie including: Hebridean Sheep, Kune Kune pigs, pygmy goats, chickens, ducks, dogs and an Eagle Owl called Boris. He has been playing traditional Irish music and singing folk songs for over forty years. For the last twenty years he has been the caller and singer in ”Haste to the Wedding”; a locally famous ceilidh band who perform seventy shows every year all over Ireland. Colin also regularly performs solo and with other musicians at venues up and down the Antrim Coast and places further afield including; Scotland, Germany and Dubai. He has written many of his own songs, a few of which can be found on his you tube channel, and he is also well known for his humorous, sometimes poignant recitations.
Colin also worked for many years as a display falconer and educator incorporating the unnatural history of birds of prey into his performances in the form of folk tales. In recent years he has ventured into storytelling proper, being mentored by the world renowned Liz
Weir MBE with whom he has shared the stage many times. He sings and tells regularly at several local storytelling venues, schools and community groups and has taken to the stage at the Glens of Antrim Storytelling Festival. His storytelling repertoire includes traditional,
mainly Irish and Scottish, folk tales and many of his own stories written in a very traditional style and always set in his beloved Glens of Antrim.
