(Fb name Despina Ariou-much easier to pronounce). Born and bred in the little island of Syros, Greece, where -after travelling a bit around Greece and Europe- I have returned to live with my family of husband, daughter, cat and two dogs. I am a teacher of English and Spanish as second languages since 2007. Following David Heathfield’s lead, I have incorporated my second best love, storytelling into my curriculum and I couldn’t be happier with the results! I grew up listening to stories from my granny and I believe they are a very useful tool, not only for educational purposes but also, and equally importantly, for trying to make the world a better place by creating strong community bonds and the comforting feeling of sharing. I have told stories at schools, beaches, parks and cafes locally and to a wider audience internationally through zoom. Hopefully, I will continue to do so for many years to come.
