Rachel is a resident storyteller at Matlock Storytelling Cafe, and has been telling stories since she was ‘nowt but a slip of a lass’. From telling her first stories to stuffed animals and long-suffering pets, she soon graduated to telling stories to her Mum who would then draw pictures to go with the tales Rachel told.
Since then, the many stories in Rachel’s own life have included working as waitress to the stars, and as Mickey Mouse’s ‘cultural representative’. She currently works as a Creative Mentor when she isn’t telling stories or tending her allotment.
Once it found Rachel, storytelling wouldn’t leave her alone. Since those early days, she has told stories to many different audiences in many different venues – sitting round campfires, in libraries, at festivals, at schools, and even, once, at a composting conference. Since these venues are not currently available, and not content with being confined to wandering the hills and dales of Derbyshire muttering stories under her breath, Rachel now boldly sallies forth into the Zoomiverse, reaching a wide audience with tales originating from many different times and places, but which are always relevant to the issues we face today.
